COVID-19 Information
What Radiation Health is doing
As we face the continuing situation with COVID-19, Radiation Health will continue to provide administrative, technical and scientific support to the Radiological Council, Western Australia's primary radiation safety regulator, while maintaining the health and safety of staff, communities, industry and other stakeholders. This includes working to strategically minimise disruption to our regulatory activities and to continue to offer guidance as required.
Radiation Health's decisions on service delivery will be guided by the latest advice from the State Government. Our activities will be reviewed in light of this advice.
For up to date information and advice on COVID-19, please refer to the wa.gov.au and HealthyWA websites.
Radiation Health's business continuity planning will be responsive to the evolving COVID-19 situation, recognising the critical importance of supporting the health care sector at this time. The standards and compliance requirements of our legislation are unchanged; however we are cognisant of the situation that people are facing and we will endeavour to assist where and when we can. Radiation safety does and must remain a high priority.
What we expect from the regulated community
As we face this evolving situation together, Radiation Health strongly recommends that our registrants implement their business continuity plan. That plan should take into account the updated advice provided by the State Government and any sector specific requirements.
In addition, it is advisable to continue to review your plans, procedures and protocols as relevant to your registration under the Radiation Safety Act, including –
- Availability of suitably trained and qualified personnel
- Emergency procedures – ensure they are up to date and address the likely emergencies that arise in the course of the activities. It is important to also consider how the COVID-19 restrictions potentially impact on your ability to respond in an emergency and adjust to ensure risks are addressed.
- Security and oversight of radioactive sources / irradiation apparatus / electronic products, particularly if activities have changed and staff numbers have been reduced. Consider how you will ensure that any remaining staff or members of the public are not adversely affected by the radioactive sources / irradiation apparatus / electronic products under your control.
- Personal Radiation Monitoring Services (PRMS) – there may be some delays in provisioning of monitoring devices – in the first instance, contact your provider to help resolve these issues.
